Favorite Parts!

Among all the many parts I love about my son, his little chin, in all its squareness/roundness/softness is one of my absolute favorites.

Here it is:

Although those pictures don't come close to doing it justice.

It is square (when looked at from the front), round (side view), so squishy (when nuzzled) and, according to the doctors when he was born, slightly recessed. But all I see is something that is so quintessentially Sawyer - it embodies his innocence, his will, his eagerness.

Will calls him a catfish, his chin a little handle for grabbing. Auntie Michele caught him sticking out his chin and called it his turtle neck. Whatever it is, it makes mommy VERY HAPPY!

Night wakings

Some time ago I read that middle-of-the-night waking ceases only when Mom and Baby are both ready for them to do so. Most (all?) moms would say they don't like getting up every few hours, all night long, to feed, change, and soothe their babies. I'd certainly count myself one of those who likes - no, loves - to sleep.

But when I really, really, think about it, the counter-intuitive answer is that I do relish these peaceful moments with my son. When I hold him, he quiets, and we spend those minutes together feeding, cuddling and loving one another I realize that yes, I'm very sleepy, but no, I'm not yet ready to give it up.

That time is sacred. He isn't distracted by the flood of new experiences that bombard him daily, and I'm not thinking about work or laundry or dinner - for those moments we are at peace and we have each other. Me needing him as much as he needs me.

First post!

New blogger here - well, not just here, but anywhere.

I've been inspired by a few of my fellow Facebook friends to put down my thoughts. I suppose it's not necessary to publish them for all to see; however, lots of the things we do aren't necessary but are cathartic, nonetheless.

Enough with the seriousness!

Will got me these flowers on Tuesday for our "half-iversary". So pretty!!

And Sawyer got me some slimy boogs, a few spit-ups, and the refusal to eat rice cereal even though weeks ago he was gobbling it up like it was going out of style.

He also learned the usefulness of the back-to-belly roll so now he's a rolling maniac. Among the many non-OSHA compliant situations in which I've found my son: under the DVD player shelf and partially hidden beneath a rocking chair. Eeeeps!

My sister came to visit last weekend. Here she is with her very favorite nephew:

Anyway, I better get to bed before a certain baby wakes and needs his mama!

Here is one last sweet picture of a Daddy and his son.
